Hello. My name is Amanda and I'm addicted to baking...
Hi Amanda...
Of course I love eating the baked goods I'm baking, I mean, that's pretty much a given. When my husband and I have a date night, we rarely order dessert. Instead, we usually hit the Jewel on the way home for, you guessed it: baked goods. However, what I also really love (just about as much) is baking aforementioned baked goods for my house of big and little men.
Flippin' Pinterest!
No longer do I see a recipe and simply think to myself, "Oooh, that looks good!"
NO! Thanks to the handy little button installed on my desktop, I can PIN said recipe and place it on my baking board. There it stays; safe and sound and not forgotten until I can whip it up at a later, or sooner, date.
The afternoon after the Frozen Gnome: chocolate cupcakes with peppermint buttercream
Last weekend: Oatmeal Scotchies
This weekend: Lemon bread and Orange bread
I have a problem.
Maybe it's the chilly weather. Maybe it's the free time I have now that the holidays are over. Maybe it's because flour and sugar and butter just make everything so delicious. Whatever it is, I probably need to stop.
Thankfully, I have been losing weight since the new year. A little each week, nothing drastic. And that is OK by me. This fall I had put on about 10 lbs. Since New Year's, 4 of it is gone. Even with the surplus of deliciousness in my house. I feel good about that. Because the truth is: I LOVE baking. It makes me happy. When we had two snow days a couple of weeks ago, I was in heaven!! I made real, nice, balanced dinners for my family. I baked. I took care of my men without the rush of normal days. It felt great. And they loved it too. There will always be baked goods in my house because that is how we all like it. That being said, I think my hubby and I are doing a good job of modeling and teaching balance and moderation and that's what it's all about, right?
So since the Frozen Gnome was right after the new year, I never did post about resolutions. Better late than never, am I right?
Some people poo poo resolutions, but I am totally in favor of them. I mean, the new year is not the only time I make resolutions or new goals. But, if I've learned anything in the last almost 3 years on this journey, I've learned that I will fall over and over again. But getting up, dusting myself off and getting back on track is totally and completely inevitable.
Resolutions for 2015:
1) I WILL see a BMI in the "healthy" range. That magic number is 158 for my height. All summer to the beginning of the fall I was within 5-10 lbs of this. Now, I'm 18 lbs away. Although I started with this one, it's of least importance to me. I did feel more comfortable in my clothes when I was only 5-10 lbs away, but I am not necessarily UNhappy with my body now. But I feel like if I don't shoot to get back there, I could climb the wrong way on the scale. So, back to My Fitness Pal at least Sunday-Friday. That has helped this month.

2) Run another marathon! And make it under 5 hours. This is totally achievable, but will not be easy. Training for a marathon takes over your life. But, I have my eye on the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon in October.
3) PR for the half-marathon and make it under 2 hours. Next on the schedule is the Rock N Roll Half in Nashville. I CAN'T WAIT!!! I'm lucky enough to be in a half-marathon training group again at the Running Depot! The rest of my training group is working towards the March Madness, which is 5 weeks before Nashville. I'll be ready in March, but will have to keep up the training myself for more than a month. I'm up for the challenge!
4) Run with the MUDD runners on the trails at least once or twice a month. Trail running is so different and I just love it! It's so challenging and beautiful and I want to do more of it!
I have some more resolutions;some professional and some personal. I want to yell less. Be less reactive. Seek out more opportunities to observe greatness. But we can talk about these another day.
