Oh my goodness
It’s been a while.
May really kicked my butt. It always does. But thank goodness and, take a breath with me…
Uhhhh…ahhhhh…..
And we’re in summer mode! YAY! I love summer mode! And you know what else? We’re in marathon training mode! Yay! I love…
Well, what's NOT to love about the BEGINNING of marathon training mode?
You know, when mileage isn’t very high and we’re meeting our daily and weekly goals and it’s no big deal. That will change, all too quickly. This time around I'm following the Hal Higdon Intermediate 1 plan. Last time I did the Novice 1, so I'm excited to see how I feel come August and September with this plan.
But before that happens, I need to talk about what I’ve been up to.
So last I wrote, I had an AMAZING Mother’s Day Run in Glacial Park. I did that again this past weekend for my first long run for marathon training. I parked at Richmond Burton High School and ran the 1.5 to Glacial, ran a couple loops in the park and then came back to my car for a little over 8. I was solo, but it ended up to be really great and just what I needed. One thing I’ve learned about myself in the last couple of years is that I really enjoy quiet time by myself. My husband is great and we do like to run together and we actually could have done our 8 together that morning. But I’m glad we decided not to. It gave me that quiet ME time before the rest of the day together.

Two weeks ago I got my long run in with some new friends. IF you’ve been reading my blogposts since the fall at least, you might remember my Moraine Hills Half recap when I talked about how I was feeling really down at the 6 mile point when the 10K racers went off and I could hear their families cheering for them and I knew I wasn’t even halfway yet. The thing that picked me up was someone in the crowd cheering for me that recognized me as The Running Depot ambassador. I ran with that guy a couple of weeks ago! Now, I don’t just go and meet people from the internet all willy nilly. Turns out we have a lot of connections and reasons to actually know each other. His sister came with us too and her daughter and my boys go to the same school! The world is so small! We had a great time on the Prairie Trail and we even bumped into my principal on the trail!
Mike and I kayaked a few times over the last month and I’ve been THINKING about getting on my bike and logging some miles that way. Just THINKING.
OK…NEW CHALLENGE time!! I need to start riding that bike because I know if will make me stronger and it’s another great cross training activity.
I just wish I LIKED it more.
But I felt the same way about running, right? I have to get out there. I vow that I will go out riding at least twice a week in the next month. It’s out there, I have to do it now.
That same weekend I did a 5K headed up by my good friend, Bridgette “Miles for Micah.” It was the first of hopefully many yearly races that raises money for Leukemia and Lymphoma research. Here I am wearing my awesome NEW The Running Depot shirt (isn’t it SO cool??!!)

So in 3 days I head out with 11 like-minded and
super bad (bad as in good!) ladies to run
almost 200 mile, relay-style from Madison to Chicago.
I
CAN’T
WAIT!
It’s kind of stunk because I haven’t really had a chance to REALLY get excited because I’ve been pretty consumed with some other work that I need to be doing for Vacation Bible School at church and my private lessons, which I have a lot of this summer. But this weekend is going to be full of memory making, estrogen and a lot of fun! More on that next time, friends! I hope you have all been taking full advantage of this INCREDIBLE weather! Whether it’s biking (which I WILL start doing more of…after Ragnar) walking, hiking, running, swimming, whatever! Just get out there and take advantage of your able body!!!
